Virtual Zoom Event

Presented by BALIF's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee

BALIF will host a training led by Elena Condes, a criminal defense attorney, and Emily Rose Johns of the National Lawyers Guild, for those interested in providing legal assistance to protestors.  On May 25, 2020, a Minneapolis police officer killed George Floyd, unarmed, handcuffed and face down on the street, by kneeling on his neck for close to nine minutes. The video of the killing compelled people from all over the country to take to the streets to demand an end to racialized police violence and the killing of Black and Brown people and assert that Black lives matter.  Since then, hundreds have been arrested. Many different citations have been issued.  This presentation will give you the basic understanding to help cited and arrested individuals, whether through supporting others with research or advising impacted individuals about how to navigate the system and find representation, if necessary.
