Sam was born and raised in Woodland, CA, and graduated from Woodland Senior High in 2000. Immediately after graduation he moved to Santa Cruz, CA where he received his B.A. in a combined degree in Politics and Latin American Latino Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2005. He is entering his 3L year at the University of San Francisco, School of Law. In addition to participating on the BALIF board this past year, he was also the social chair for Pride Law, the vice president of Law Students for Reproductive Justice, as well as a board member of the Criminal Justice Society. Further, he was part of the Racial Justice Clinic, which focuses on the racial disparities in pretrial detainment in San Francisco County and participated in the Criminal Juvenile Justice Clinic ("CJJ clinic") representing adult and juvenile clients charged with misdemeanors in San Francisco Superior Court. This summer he will be the research assistant to Professor Sharon Meadows. In that capacity, he will be researching issues surrounding the bail system and will handle the entire CJJ clinic caseload.
